Kinesotaping

Kinesotaping to aid with postural correction and facilitate the healing process by supporting and stabilising muscles and joints.

Kinesotaping can be a highly effective method in reminding us when our posture slips. Braces that physically hold you in the correct position do not help as your muscles are passive, while the work is being completed by something else. By actively maintaining good posture yourself, you are training the muscles that this is the position you want them to be in. Kinesotape will not actively hold you in a certain position, but when applied correctly, it will pull on your skin when you deviate away from good posture and act as a friendly reminder to correct yourself.

From a healing and sports performance perspective, it is theorised that it lifts the skin from the tissues below it to allow more blood flow to the area, which in turn helps aid the healing process. It is also proposed that it can cause compression or decompression of the area the tape is applied to, and either turn on or turn off the muscle by applying the tape with maximum tension, or very little tension, which alters the pain signals to the brain.
