FAQs
What should I expect at the initial consultation?
This usually takes around 40 minutes where we will discuss your case history. A physical examination then follows which is designed to identify the structure that is causing the problem. Based on both the history and exam, we will then offer a full diagnosis and explanation of the condition and the various treatment options available to you.
What is the difference between a Chiropractor and Osteopath?
Both Chiropractors and Osteopaths are statutory regulated professionals with their own general councils, and by law we are required to be registered with a council in order to practise under the title. Here at Ely Chiropractic Clinic, we are registered with the General Chiropractic Council and are therefore regulated by them. You can find our credentials on their website.
The main documented difference is treatment techniques. Chiropractors tend to use shorter levers, so manipulation is used more commonly to treat area’s of spinal dysfunction. Chiropractors are associated with the famous ‘crack’ that comes from releasing area’s of spinal tension. Osteopaths tend to use long levers, so mobilisation techniques are more commonly used.
However, every practitioner is unique, and will have their own style of treatment and combination of treatments they like to use.
How long will it take to feel better and how many sessions will I need?
This is a difficult one to answer and depends on a variety of factors. Length of symptoms is one of the biggest indicators. The quicker you get a problem seen to, the quicker it is likely to resolve. Age, severity of the condition and lifestyle are also big players.
Do I need to contact my GP?
No, you do not require a GP referral to see a chiropractor.
Is chiropractic covered by private health insurance?
Yes we are covered by most major health insurance providers. We advise you contact them to check your policy covers chiropractic care.
Who can Chiropractic help?
Everyone! From babies to the elderly.
Do I need an X- ray/MRI?
This depends on the nature of the case. A thorough history and physical exam will determine whether we deem further imaging necessary. We offer immediate private referrals for a variety of scans if indicated.
